July Jobs Report: Workers Don’t Deserve a “Part Time” America

The latest economic data shows America is no longer producing the jobs necessary to justify our place as the world’s most dynamic economy. The president of Job Creators Alliance says Washington needs to hit the brakes on job-killing policies so entrepreneurs can get back to driving the nation where it needs to go.
“The job ‘growth’ for July was nowhere near the sustained rate of 200,000-plus monthly new jobs we have needed every month – and will continue to need every month – to put Americans back to work and keep them there,” said Job Creators Alliance President Alfredo Ortiz, regarding the July jobs report showing just 162,000 net new jobs were added last month.
The latest U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ monthly report also showed a small drop in the unemployment rate, but it came with a low labor force participation rate. Many Americans have simply given up and left the workforce. Furthermore, as has been the trend in past months, more than half of the new jobs are part-time, which means fewer average hours worked by Americans.
“America’s job creators have warned for two years that ObamaCare’s fees and mandates would kill growth in career jobs and turn us into a part-time economy,” said Ortiz. “We’re now seeing exactly that, every month, in these jobs reports. Washington must call a ‘time out’ on the whole Affordable Care Act and come up with something better. The most productive workers on Earth deserve to be working full time.”
