Job Creators Network Reacts to Weekly Unemployment Claims Report
Washington, DC – (June 25, 2020) — New data released by the Department of Labor reveals the number of first-time unemployment claims was 1.48 million last week.
Alfredo Ortiz, President and CEO of the Job Creators Network (JCN), released the following statement:
“With another 1.48 million Americans filing first-time jobless claims last week, now is the worst possible time for the media to be scaring people about a so-called ‘second wave.’ Yes, the number of cases is going up – but that’s mostly because of more testing – as Doctors Tom Price, C.L. Gray and others have pointed out. Those serving on the frontlines – doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals – have made it clear: We need to start going out and safely reengaging with society. The JCN Foundation’s ‘Flatten the Fear’ campaign puts a microphone in front of health experts who are warning of the negative effects of the lockdown and the importance of reopening and reengaging. Congress has a role to play, as well. We need a temporary, targeted payroll tax cut for businesses with less than 100 employees and ‘employment assurance’ benefits to incentive employees to get back to work and off unemployment. Small businesses are primed to lead America’s recovery but we need the media and Congress to work with us, not against us. The sooner we can get back to normal, the sooner we can benefit from President Trump’s pro-growth policies and get back to the prosperity we enjoyed just four months ago.”
