Gas Tax Cuts Are Band-Aid Solution to President Biden’s Bad Energy Policy

Alfredo Ortiz, president and CEO of Job Creators Network, released the following statement in response to moves by state governments across the country to reduce drivers’ pain at the pump:

“Numerous state governments are trying to clean up President Biden’s green energy mess by suspending gas taxes. Biden’s opposition to traditional energy, including his drilling bans and canceling of the Keystone XL pipeline, has resulted in gas prices roughly doubling since he was elected. These high gas prices are causing enormous pain for small businesses and ordinary Americans and are a major cause of the highest inflation in 40 years. Rather than admit his policy mistake and reverse course, Biden is kowtowing to green radicals by doubling down on his inflationary green energy policy in his new budget and dispatching his officials to tell Americans to ride the bus.

States are stepping up to provide much-needed gas price relief, boosting their economies and small businesses. But these actions are only a Band-Aid solution. Gas taxes are generally required for road construction and maintenance, and they will need to be reapplied when federal government Covid-19 slush funds run out. The better long-term solution to low energy prices is clear: dramatically expand American oil and gas production and send the green radicals back to their communes where they belong.”
