FIRST-TIME JOBLESS CLAIMS HIT 406,000, JOB CREATORS NETWORK REACTS
The Department of Labor revealed the number of first-time unemployment claims was 406,000 last week.
Alfredo Ortiz, President and CEO of the Job Creators Network (JCN), released the following statement:
“Our economy is continuing to be held back by the Democrats’ war on small business. Too many Americans are staying at home collecting unemployment benefits instead of rejoining the workforce, thanks to the Democrats $1.9 trillion stimulus bill. The result is that we have 8.1 million job openings – an all-time record. Instead of acknowledging this mistake, many Democrats want to make it permanent – seeing it as a dry run for a Universal Basic Income. The record spending is also fueling inflation, with core inflation rising at its fastest level in four decades. Again, President Biden and the Democrats are making a self-inflected problem worse by proposing an additional $4 trillion in spending. This madness must come to an end. The American people do not want a redux of the Jimmy Carter years when slow growth and high inflation led to American decline. We need to let small business lead our recovery with a full economic reopening. President Biden and the Democrats should just get out of the way.”
In March, RealClearPolitics published Mr. Ortiz’s op-ed, Biden’s Presidency Is the Modern Version of Jimmy Carter’s. To read it, click here.
In April, JCN released a backgrounder, “Biden and the Democrats’ War on Small Business.” The backgrounder summarizes the Democrats’ job-killing agenda in four areas: taxes, the minimum wage, lockdowns, and the PRO Act. To read it, click here.
