FIRST-TIME JOBLESS CLAIMS HIT 373,000, JOB CREATORS NETWORK REACTS

The Department of Labor revealed the number of first-time unemployment claims was 373,000 last week.

Alfredo Ortiz, President and CEO of the Job Creators Network (JCN), released the following statement:

“With first-time jobless claims remaining about twice as high as they were pre-pandemic, now is the perfect time for President Biden and Congress to renew the Restaurant Revitalization Fund.  The RRF is set to expire on July 14th – just six days from now – and 265,000 restaurant operators who applied for funding have yet to receive a dime. These small business owners urgently need funding.  They have suffered a pandemic, a recession, and now a national labor shortage. We have a near-record 9.2 million job openings, thanks to President Biden’s overly-generous unemployment bonuses – although, thankfully, 26 Governors have done the right thing by withdrawing early from the program.  This is a key leadership test for Biden: Will he stand up for small businesses or will he give us the cold shoulder?  Hundreds of thousands of restaurants hang in the balance and we have no time to lose.  Our message to Biden: Get. It. Done!”

In April, JCN released a backgrounder, “Biden and the Democrats’ War on Small Business.” The backgrounder summarizes the Democrats’ job-killing agenda in four areas: taxes, the minimum wage, lockdowns, and the PRO Act. To read it, click here.
