Biden Continues to Defy Supreme Court and Ignore Underlying Problem by Cancelling Student Debt

Alfredo Ortiz, president and CEO of Job Creators Network, released the following statement in response to President Biden’s latest round of student loan forgiveness announced today: 

“President Biden continues to ignore the Supreme Court and Congress, co-equal branches of government, by forgiving more and more student debt. Through student loan workarounds such as today’s $9 billion of debt forgiveness, the Biden administration has canceled $127 billion in student debt, almost one-third of the amount proposed under his broad cancellation plan struck down by the Supreme Court. These are actions of a lawless president. More broadly, they do nothing to fix the underlying reason for the student debt crisis: unaccountable colleges that overcharge students. Forgiving debt merely gives these colleges a blank check to keep on price-gouging students. To meaningfully fix the student debt crisis, the Biden administration should join with Congressional Republicans to pass legislation that requires colleges to have skin in the student loan game.”
