Carlos Gazitua is President and CEO of Sergio’s Restaurants and creator of Sergio’s Cuban Café in South Florida. With six restaurants and three fast casual locations, Sergio’s has over 650 employees. The robust growth of Sergio’s in South Florida marks him as a Hispanic minority leader in the hospitality industry.
Gazitua’s entrepreneurship has led him to great success. In 2012 he created La Flaca™ brand, which promotes healthy cooking alternatives for Cuban food. The La Flaca™ menu has transformed the way people eat Latin and Cuban cuisine in South Florida. Sergio’s earned an award from the Florida Department of Health in 2016 as the first certified restaurant to take part in the Healthy Happens Here Initiative in Miami-Dade County.
On the Florida Restaurant & Lodging Association Board for Dade County, Gazitua serves as the President Elect of Restaurants, and is also a recipient of the Doral Chamber Council Hispanic Business Award. Gazitua was honored for winning the 2016 Small Business of the Year Award from the Doral Business Council and recently was appointed spokesman of the Bring Small Business Back program for Job Creators Network. Gazitua also serves on the board for Visit Florida the official marketing corporation for the State of Florida.
As CEO of Sergio’s, Gazitua has shared his small business insight as a featured guest on FOX Business’ “After the Bell”, NPR, WLRN, and the Mike Gallagher Show. His opinion articles have been featured in the Miami Herald, Miami Today and 305 Magazine.
Gazitua’s passion for Cuban food started early on as he helped the family business at the first Sergio’s location. He has performed multiple food presentations on NBC Miami’s “6 in the Mix.” Most recently, Sergio’s was featured on the Cooking Channel’s “Cheap Eats” and Emeril’s Florida, where Gazitua prepared empanadas with host Ali Khan and showcased Sergios authentic Cuban Cuisine to famed chef Emeril Lagasse.
Carlos earned his undergraduate degree from Georgetown University and his MBA and Law Degree from Stetson College of Law. He resides in Miami with his wife, Liana Gazitua, and their two young boys.
