Small Businesses Support House Plan to Reduce Unemployment Insurance Burden

Alfredo Ortiz, president and CEO of Job Creators Network, released the following statement in support of H.R. 1163, Protecting Taxpayers and Victims of Unemployment Fraud Act, being voted on by the U.S. House of Representatives this week:

“H.R. 1163 would incentivize states to recover fraudulent unemployment insurance payments that are a major cost for American small businesses already struggling with shrinking profit margins. During the pandemic, unemployment fraud cost small businesses and taxpayers at least $191 billion, according to the Department of Labor Inspector General. Incentivizing states to recover fraudulent unemployment payments and updating antiquated technology used for identifying who is eligible for unemployment insurance will help reduce significant unemployment insurance costs burdening American small businesses and taxpayers.”
