Job Creators Network: US/China Tariff Ceasefire is Positive, US Should Maintain Resolve

Washington, DC (December 2, 2018) – The Job Creators Network today released the following statement on behalf of President and CEO Alfredo Ortiz in response to news that the United States and China have agreed to a pause in their trade confrontation:

“The tariffs are hurting the Chinese economy and they would not have agreed to more talks without them. There are many serious issues to be resolved, including forced technology transfers and wider access to the Chinese market for US exporters.

“The President has said that if the talks fail over the next few months, he will impose more and higher taxes on Chinese exports. That is the right tone to take with this regime, which has been bullying American companies for decades. They force American firms to give up their proprietary technologies in order to gain access to their market. They impose regulations on US firms and exempt their own firms. And they subsidize their own firms, so they can compete unfairly against US firms. All of this must stop.

“The Chinese need to know that the three-month pause is an opportunity for them to save their economy. We are encouraged by the President’s tough strategy, which is decades overdue. The status quo cheats American companies and American workers, which is unfair and unsustainable.”
