Job Creators Network Supports Stop Unemployment Fraud Act

Alfredo Ortiz, CEO of Job Creators Network, released the following statement on the Stop Unemployment Fraud Act, introduced on Thursday:

“The Stop Unemployment Fraud Act is a commonsense step toward restoring integrity to the unemployment insurance system. By requiring applicants to verify their identity before receiving benefits and strengthening work-search requirements, this legislation would close major loopholes that fraudsters exploited during the pandemic and continue to exploit.

“Unemployment insurance is a major cost to small businesses that the general public doesn’t see even though these costs are shared with workers through lower pay. On behalf of Main Street, JCN commends Rep. Lloyd Smucker for protecting small business earnings from being laundered through the unemployment insurance apparatus to fund fraud and criminality. American social welfare programs need to be run with the same accountability as a small business trying to stay profitable. Every Member of Congress should support this important legislation.”
