Job Creators Network Statement on Proposed ACA Premium Increases
Alfredo Ortiz, CEO of Job Creators Network, released the following statement in response to reports that Affordable Care Act premiums will increase by an average of 18% next year:
“Democrats and their media allies claim another year of massive ACA premium hikes is due to expiring expanded ACA subsidies. Democrats are holding basic government operations hostage in a vain effort to extend these taxpayer payoffs to their insurer donors. But Democrats have the cause and effect backward. Hundreds of billions of dollars of annual ACA subsidies over the last several years have increased premiums because they shield health insurers from market discipline.”
“Studies show the overwhelming reason for next year’s premium increase is systemic problems with American healthcare, including regulations and subsidies that have made the ACA anything but affordable. On behalf of small businesses, patients, and taxpayers victimized by the ACA’s structural problems, JCN encourages Democrats to come to the table to make meaningful healthcare reforms to promote direct care that actually bends the cost curve. Maintaining a government shutdown in hopes of extending expanded subsidies is just the latest proof that the ACA has never lived up to its promise and never will.”
