Job Creators Network Reacts to Weekly Unemployment Claims Report

Small Businesses Need Help, Going from Quarantine to Curfew

Washington, DC (June 4, 2020) — New data released by the Department of Labor reveals the number of first-time unemployment claims was 1.877 million last week.

Alfredo Ortiz, President and CEO of the Job Creators Network (JCN)released the following statement:

“With the number of Americans filing jobless claims reaching about 43 million, our economic recovery needs to start this month and everyone has a role to play. Small businesses can lead our recovery, but federal, state, and local officials need to create an environment where progress is possible. In the past week, small businesses – already hurting from the pandemic – went from quarantine to curfew.  Every day, more and more people are starting to realize that America’s economy needs to reopen at a faster pace. This is where Congress can come in. Last night, the Senate followed the House in passing the PPP Flexibility Act. This legislation isn’t perfect but it’s essential to small business owners approaching the eight-week loan forgiveness deadline.  As Americans, we must never forget we live in the greatest country in the history of the world, and we will overcome these many challenges so long as we stick together and look to the future with optimism.”
