Job Creators Network Reacts to Weekly Unemployment Claims Report

Washington, DC – (May 14, 2020) — New data released by the Department of Labor reveals the number of first-time unemployment claims was 2.981 million last week. During the past eight weeks, about 36 million Americans have lost their jobs.

Alfredo Ortiz, President and CEO of the Job Creators Network (JCN), released the following statement:

“Jobless claims are down slightly over the past few weeks thanks to the Paycheck Protection Program, which has saved more than 30 million jobs. Even so, Congress needs to do more. JCN is continuing to push for a targeted, temporary payroll tax holiday for small business because it’s the best strategy for stimulating our economy. The worst strategy is the Pelosi plan, which pumps trillions into government programs, rewards states like California and New York for their reckless spending which took place before the pandemic, and magnifies our debt crisis. Government spending will not lead America’s recovery. Small businesses will. Nobody knows more about how to keep their employees and customers safe than small business owners. These hard-working and innovate entrepreneurs will bring back our economy and end mass unemployment, but only if government officials allow them to do so.”

This week, FoxBusiness.com published an op-ed by Mr. Ortiz and former Kansas Governor Jeff Colyer, a practicing physician, about how America can reopen smartly and safely by letting small businesses lead the way. To read their op-ed, click here.
