Job Creators Network Reacts to Weekly Unemployment Claims Report
Washington, DC – (July 9, 2020) — New data released by the Department of Labor reveals the number of first-time unemployment claims was 1.314 million last week.
Alfredo Ortiz, President and CEO of the Job Creators Network (JCN), released the following statement:
“While today’s report shows that government-imposed lockdowns are forcing new layoffs in some parts of the country, it’s important to remember we have experienced record net job growth for two straight months. In June, a record 4.8 million Americans regained their jobs, on top of the 2.5 million Americans who regained their jobs in May. We still have work to do in terms of ‘flattening the fear,’ but we have made substantial progress in a short amount of time, and President Trump’s promise of a ‘V-shaped recovery’ is looking more realistic every day. Congress should do its part by passing a temporary, targeted payroll tax cut for businesses with less than 100 employees and ‘employment assurance’ benefits to incentive employees to get back to work and off unemployment. Joe Biden, on the other hand, should stay in his basement. He has nothing to offer the small business community or America’s workers. Last week, he released an ad claiming Trump ‘left behind’ small business’ featuring a business owner who received $27,000 from the Paycheck Protection Program, which wouldn’t exist without Trump. That ad should be taken down for false advertising. Nothing would be worse for America’s small business community or our economy than a Biden Administration.”
