Job Creators Network Praises Gov. Ron DeSantis’ Plan to Hold Colleges Accountable for Student Loan Crisis
Alfredo Ortiz, president and CEO of Job Creators Network, released the following statement in response to Gov. Ron DeSantis’ economic plan that holds colleges accountable for the student loan crisis:
“Job Creators Network Foundation sued to block the Biden administration’s student loan bailout because this executive overreach did nothing to address the root cause of the student loan problem: unaccountable colleges that overcharge students. We are happy to see Congressional Republicans, and now Gov. DeSantis, propose reforms to fix the crisis rather than exacerbate it. Gov. DeSantis’ plan to make colleges responsible for loans and allow students to discharge loans in bankruptcy are giant steps forward. If enacted, colleges would be strongly incentivized to lower costs and improve quality to reduce the number of graduates who can’t pay their debt.”
“Now the ball is in Democrats’ court. President Biden should join with Democrat Senators like Elizabeth Warren, who have long called out price gouging, to haul the heads of colleges before Congress to explain their outrageous tuition hikes. Until then, it’s clear there’s only one political party committed to solving this problem burdening so many Americans.”
“JCN also commends Gov. DeSantis’ broader ‘Declaration of Economic Independence,’ numerous provisions of which mirror JCN’s American Small Business Prosperity Plan. Such pro-growth policies can dramatically boost economic opportunity for all Americans suffering from Bidenflation and Bidenomics.”
