Job Creators Network Opposes Potential Nomination of Former U.S. Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer as Labor Secretary

Alfredo Ortiz, CEO of Job Creators Network, released the following statement opposing the potential nomination of former U.S. Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer as Labor Secretary:

“Lori Chavez-DeRemer’s support of Democrats’ radical Pro Act makes her unfit to serve as Labor Secretary in the Trump administration. This legislation is a Big Labor wish list that tramples over the rights of small businesses and ordinary workers. The legislation blocks the free speech of small businesses; it forcibly unionizes small businesses under the auspice of ‘card check”; it ends right-to-work, and it bans most small businesses that act as sole proprietorships. Small businesses need a champion as labor secretary, not an enemy who supports such crushing legislation.”

“Republicans are smart to incorporate unions in their coalition, as union jobs are often most threatened by Democrats’ big government and green agendas. The important distinction is that Republicans must be pro-worker, not pro-union or pro-management per se. They should support union members who believe in collective bargaining but also support employees at unionized workplaces who want to leave or decertify their union that’s not serving their best interests, as a growing number are choosing to do. And Republicans must continue backing workplace freedom legislation that offers employees this choice.

“What Republicans can never do is sell out small businesses for Big Labor interests. Nominating Lori Chavez-DeRemer would signify the party is going down this path, and conservative organizations must loudly speak together in opposition.”
