Job Creators Network Opposes H.R. 4, the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, as a Federal Takeover of Elections

Congressional Democrats are currently working to pass H.R. 4, the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.

Alfredo Ortiz, president and CEO of the Job Creators Network, released the following statement:

“President Biden recently said at a press conference that democracy is in peril. He couldn’t have been more correct, but the threat is coming from Democrats pushing H.R. 4, not Republicans. H.R. 4 would amount to a federal takeover of state and local elections. Its requirements that states receive preclearance before making sensible voting procedure changes would empower partisan bureaucrats in Washington D.C. at the expense of elected local representatives. The Supreme Court was right to throw out this preclearance requirement in 2013, and Democrats should respect this coequal branch of government rather than attempting this partisan power grab.

“JCN was intimately involved with the recent fight over Georgia’s election law and saw firsthand how Democrat lies contributed to the loss of over $100 million in small business economic activity associated with Major League Baseball’s All-Star Game. If HR 4 is passed, federal Democrats can peddle lies to unilaterally block state election changes over the will of the people. The lengths Democrats were willing to go in Georgia to lie about the voting law demonstrates just how dangerous HR 4 would be. To uphold constitutional voting protections, reaffirmed by the Supreme Court, Congress must reject this Democrat effort to subvert American democracy.”
