JOB CREATORS NETWORK CALLS FOR BIPARTISAN ELECTION REFORM AS SENATE RULES COMMITTEE BEGINS S. 1 MARKUP

Today, the Senate Rules Committee is holding a markup on S. 1, a controversial election reform bill being pushed by Democrats.

Alfredo Ortiz, President and CEO of the Job Creators Network (JCN), released the following statement:

“We need bipartisan, common-sense solutions to strengthen our voting system, but S. 1 is not the answer.  Among other things, S. 1 abolishes state voter ID laws, even though 77 percent of Americans support voter ID laws, according to a poll by Honest Elections Project. If S. 1 passes Congress, it will give Democrats a permanent leg up in future elections and substantially increase their chances of passing left-wing legislation.  S. 1 threatens the existence of political and grassroots groups because it requires nonprofits to disclose the names of their significant donors. This would send ‘cancel culture’ into overdrive as outed donors would be de-platformed and blacklisted.  This is a feature, not a bug, of S. 1, which amounts to a federal takeover of state elections to the advantage of Democrats. Centrist Democrats should work with their Republican colleagues on a bipartisan election reform bill that truly enhances the security of our elections.”

In March, the Washington Times published Mr. Ortiz’s op-ed, H.R. 1 tramples speech and election rights to consolidate Democrat power. H.R. 1 is the House version of the Democrats’ election reform bill. To read it, click here.
