Hispanic Vote Coalition Calls on House Spending Bill to Include SAVE Act
Today, leaders of the Hispanic Vote Coalition announced their support for a House spending bill that includes the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act (SAVE Act). This measure requires proof of citizenship to register to vote, which increases voting integrity and protects American elections. The spending bill’s final provisions are currently being hammered out, with a House vote expected soon.
Leaders of the Hispanic Vote Coalition released the following statements calling on Members of Congress to back a spending bill that includes the SAVE Act:
Alfredo Ortiz, CEO of Job Creators Network:
“Every Member of Congress should support the SAVE Act and its inclusion in the House spending bill to protect the integrity of American elections. Its commonsense requirement for proof of citizenship to register to vote will safeguard American elections at a time when they’re under unprecedented threat. Although noncitizen voting is rare, in increasingly close elections, these illegal votes can unfairly determine the outcome. The Save Act makes it easy for Americans to vote but hard for noncitizens to cheat.”
Pastor Robert Albino, Jr., National Chapter Director at the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference:
“Providing proof of citizenship at the time of voter registration as the SAVE Act requires protects American elections and promotes the values of honesty and transparency that are essential to the Christian Faith ethos. With a growing threat of noncitizen voting rooted in deception and malice fueled by liberal cities seeking to implement this practice in local elections, it’s vital that Members of Congress include the SAVE Act in the House spending bill. As seen in many states such as Iowa, Alabama, and North and South Carolina, this is a bipartisan concern and should be treated as such at the congressional level as well. Voting in our elections is not just a right, it is a privilege given to those who uphold our laws and American values and participate in the process legally. We strongly support the SAVE ACT and encourage its passage by both Democrat and Republican Members of Congress.”
