Florida Businessman Honored with JCN Bernie Marcus Entrepreneurial Award
Washington, DC (October 2, 2018) – The Job Creators Network, a nationwide advocacy group for small businesses, will recognize Joe Semprevivo, President and CEO of Joseph’s Lite Cookies, a Florida-based manufacturer, for his entrepreneurial spirit and his activism on behalf of his fellow small business owners across the country.
“After being diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of nine, and his family being hurled into poverty because of a work-related injury, he did not give up,” said Elaine Parker, President of the Job Creators Network Foundation, who presented Semprevivo with the award. “Instead, he funneled that emotion into starting Joseph’s Lite Cookies, a business that now produces over 12 million sugar-free cookies a day that are sold all over the world.”
Semprevivo will receive the Bernie Marcus Entrepreneurial Award, named after Home Depot Co-Founder Bernie Marcus, who is also founder of the Job Creators Network (JCN). The organization led the charge last year to pass the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, the largest tax cut in history for small businesses. Parker described Semprevivo, who is active with JCN, as the group’s secret weapon.
“He was very active on that campaign, telling his story to members of Congress, members of the media, and the public,” said Parker. “He brought credibility to the issue as a small business owner that lobbyists and professional spokespersons cannot replicate. He was a very powerful and effective spokesperson for one of the most important pieces of legislation in history, and he was a big part of our success.”
Semprevivo is still active with the group, this year as part of its national Tax Cuts Work campaign to protect the tax cuts. He and other small business owners featured on the website, explaining on video how the tax cuts have helped them and their employees.
