Congressional Hearing on “Universal Health Coverage” Shows Democrats Eager to Cancel Private Health Insurance, Embrace Socialism
Washington, D.C. (June 12, 2019)— Today, the House Ways and Means Committee is holding a hearing titled, Pathways to Universal Health Coverage.
Alfredo Ortiz, president and CEO of the Job Creators Network, released the following statement:
Democrats in Congress refuse to learn the lessons of Obamacare. If Obamacare taught us anything, it’s that more government involvement in healthcare will make it more expensive. The Democratic response, however, is a full-blown takeover of America’s healthcare system, under the guise of “universal health coverage.” Whether it’s called “universal” healthcare, “single-payer,” or “Medicare for All,” the result is the same: socialized healthcare and the elimination of private health insurance for 200 million Americans. Other countries who’ve tried this scheme suffer from rationed care, long wait times, and crushing taxpayer costs. Instead of selling Americans on bankrupt ideas that should have died with the Cold War, Democrats should work with Republicans on common-sense reforms, including expanding Association Health Plans.
The most popular “universal” healthcare bill before Congress is the Medicare for All Act of 2019, which has over 110 cosponsors. This week, JCN distributed a letter to committee leadership opposing “universal health coverage” and calling for bipartisan action on Association Health Plans. Read a copy of the letter here.
